Hathaway: People were tired of me

Anne Hathaway won an Oscar for her performance in Les Miserables

Anne Hathaway says she stayed out of the limelight after her Oscar win - because "people needed a break from me."

The actress, 31, enjoyed huge acclaim for her performance in musical film Les Miserables, culminating in a Best Supporting Actress win at the Academy Awards early last year.

But, with the exception of a cameo in Don Jon, film fans saw little of the star during the rest of 2013 and Anne told The Huffington Post people got tired of her.

" My impression is that people needed a break from me," The Devil Wears Prada star laughed.

As well as her Oscar, Anne won a Golden Globe, SAG and Bafta for her role as Fantine in Les Miserables.

She now has three films coming up for release in 2014 - Song One, which premiered at the Sundance film festival, Christopher Nolan's Interstellar and the movie Don Peyote - as well as a voice role in Rio 2.

The actress said it was wrong to think that she would be singing a lot, as she did in Les Mis, in Song One, despite the title of the movie.

"That misconception has gotten out there..." she said, adding: "I t's a very different film (from Les Mis), but I don't play a singer or a musician, I play an anthropologist.

"So, I don't think it would have felt organic at all if all of a sudden Franny (her character) had this secretly honed talent," she told The Huffington Post.

"So, it was fun to get to sing and to find a place in my voice that it sounded like it was untrained and tentative and shy. But, I thought, you know, she comes from a musical family so she probably has a nice voice, but just isn't a singer."
