Glamorous Jane goes it alone for children's fund
JANE Given and her footballer husband, Shay, were famous for raising funds for charity.
But after their split she showed she has no qualms about going it alone in support of a good cause.
Yesterday she joined 330 socialites at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin for the €100-a-plate lunch and fashion show in aid of children's charity CARI.
The 37-year-old ex-model and mother-of-two from northern England split from the former Ireland goalkeeper and Aston Villa star in March after 12 years of marriage
The couple, who have a young son and daughter together, separated several months ago, ending their joint fundraising efforts in which they had raised more than €1m for MacMillan Cancer Support.
"I'm delighted to see her here. She comes here quite a lot and we go over to her in the UK," said her close friend Georgina Ahern (pictured below with her mother Miriam and sister Cecelia), who was also at the lunch along with her best-selling-novelist sister.
Ms Ahern, who is married to former Westlife star Nicky Byrne and is the daughter of former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, is expecting the couple's third child. Their twins, Jay and Rocco were born in April 2007.
Their mother, Miriam Ahern, who hosted the event, said they were hopeful that people would still dig deep into their pockets to support the charity, which provides professional therapy and counselling to children and families who have been affected by childhood sex abuse.
