Sadly, Ireland's most talked about – and talkative – solicitor will be bereft on Friday, as his beloved will be away on business.

"My darling Lisa," Kean told me, referring to his wife-to-be Ms Murphy, "is in Dubai for the week on a work-related matter for The Hospital Group." He added that he will going to Cork on Valentine's Day to be a guest speaker at his rugby club, Cork Constitution, before the big league game against their neighbours Dolphin.

When I asked whether there was any news of a date for that other big local derby in Cork – his long awaited nuptials to Ms Murphy – he answered no but they'll "decide shortly".

When I asked Mr Kean whether the nation could draw any conclusions from this apparent indecision about what will surely be the wedding of the year, he replied: "No. It's going to happen."

Gerald – who was in Shanahans On The Green last Friday with Harry Beauchamp, a consultant in Blackrock Clinic and a longtime friend who helped Kean when he was sick last summer – is a man of his word. And I'll hold him to it.
