Following in the footsteps of a playwright and a singer, Jim McGuinness has been honoured as the Donegal Person of the Year, and he's dedicated the title to his All-Ireland-winning football team.
Awarded with the honour at the Mansion House in Dublin on Monday night, the 39-year-old joins past recipients Brian Friel, Daniel O'Donnell and Brian and Seán McEniff.
McGuinness told The Diary of his delight at being recognised, but deflected praise by insisting he was accepting it on behalf of his county players.
"It's a huge honour to be acknowledged by your own people," he said. "It's a big thing in Donegal and held in high esteem, so when you're selected it means a lot for you, your friends and your family.
"I'm accepting this on behalf of the players and the rest of the management team, because I wouldn't have even been considered if it wasn't for all our work."
McGuinness admitted that being crowned Donegal Person of the Year was particularly meaningful for him as a member of the sporting world as he's now ranked among the "higher echelons".
He was accompanied to the event by his wife, Yvonne.
