Evans: Crow remake a responsibility

Luke Evans is starring in the remake of The Crow

Luke Evans has admitted he feels a great responsibility taking on the starring role in the remake of The Crow.

Brandon Lee died while filming the original movie in 1993, after he was accidentally shot during a stunt scene. But the film, about a man who comes back to life as the undead avenger of his and his fiancee's brutal murders, was released and went on to achieve cult status.

Luke admitted: "It's a huge responsibility. It's a very cult film that's loved by a lot of people. Sadly there was a big tragedy in the film when it was made and so we have a responsibility to do something very special with it.

"We want to bring the story back to its source material which means it will be a very different telling of the story, not the one that most people know from the 20-year-old film with Brandon Lee.

"So it's exciting, it's a lot of physical work at the moment - that's what I'm doing, losing weight."

James O'Barr, creator of the original The Crow graphic novel series, will be a consultant on the remake, due to start filming this year, directed by F Javier Gutierrez.

The Hobbit star Luke will next appear in Dracula Untold, starring as Vlad Tepes. The Welsh actor admitted it was another daunting role to take on.

He said: "They're big shoes to fill, I'm very aware of that. But what's interesting about this portrayal is it's as much about the historical figure that inspires the literary figure as it is about Dracula. And so we start back in Vlad Tepes' life in the 1400s about his journey and his human experience, and what changes his life and how he becomes this famous vampire.

"So it's a story people are not expecting and it's not essentially horror, it's more based on the human journey as much as it is about the vampire."

Dracula Untold also stars Dominic Cooper, Samantha Barks and Charlie Cox.
