Elizabeth McGovern has revealed Downton Abbey has the seal of approval from America's First Lady.
The US actress plays Lady Cora Crawley in the hit period drama, and has told of her excitement at meeting Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton, and finding out they are Downton fans, The Sun reported.
Elizabeth said: "It was completely surreal - Hillary Clinton said she was a fan. I was enthralled meeting her - she is so warm and intelligent and appealing.
"We also had a really nice tour of the White House and we met the President and his wife. President Obama said to me, 'You're a very fine actress' and I said, 'You're a very fine President!'
"It's easy to criticise these people who are doing such tough jobs. But when you meet them they're people, like you and I, trying to do their best."
It has previously been revealed that Michelle Obama is such a big Downton fan she couldn't wait until the third series aired on US television in January 2013, so she got an assistant to contact ITV and send her the new episodes on DVD in advance.
