'The Ascent of Man' by Dr Jacob Bronowski. I have read this book again and again since it was first published in 1973 and find something new each time I dip into it.
I'm old-fashioned enough to love to be reminded of the words and music of Nat King Cole.
Winning the Gold Medal in Portmarnock Golf Club on the same day that my wife Denise and son Donal won the all-Ireland Mother and Son competition in Malahide Golf Club.
Favourite piece of furniture
The table at which Denise and I eat our meals at home (when we eat indoors). It has a great view of Dublin Bay. I also love a clock that was given to my parents when they got married in 1931`.
Favourite item of clothing
It has to be one of my garish ties. I had one made in bright green with armchairs all over it. Under each armchair was YCDBSOYA – "You can't do business sitting on your... armchair!"
I react badly to a speaker who knows he has 20 minutes but, having made his point in the first minute, continues to speak for the next 19.
most important person
My wife and I are married 50 years. It could not be anyone else.
what advice would you give your 16-year-old self?
Don't be afraid to seek help – you can't do everything on your own.
Most likely from my mother when I was just a minute old.
what characteristic in yourself do you like the most and least?
The characteristic I like is that I trust everybody and am seldom let down. The characteristic I like least is that I trust everybody and on occasions I am let down.
Chateau de Fieuzal is a favourite Claret for me. I am a little biased as the chateau belongs to my cousin, Lochlann.
Howth has an abundance of great fish restaurants. We love to go to Aqua at the end of the West Pier.
