Don the Sunday best to sample Merrion's brunch

Mimosas and maple syrup, why not? The social set put on their Sunday best to avail of the tasty new brunch option at the Merrion Hotel's Cellar Bar last weekend and sample a menu that boasts a mix of Irish comfort and American-style grub.

Welcomed into the oak-lined surroundings of the 18th-Century wine vaults, the guests nestled into nooks and crannies to soak up the relaxed atmosphere and make the most of an afternoon of indulgence. Executive chef Ed Cooney's black pudding pots infused with roasted apple went down a treat among the hungry diners, but the piece de la resistance, so to speak, was the impressive Seafood Tower for two.

For some it was a family affair, with The Diary spotting former Fair City actress Aoibhin Garrihy accompanied by sister Doireann. Newlyweds Chris Doyle and Sean Munsanje settled themselves at the bar area, as did PR guru Caroline Kennedy, Tom McGurk and manager Peter MacCann.

Yvonne Keating caught up with other half John Conroy, who suddenly grew camera shy when approached, and also seen popping her head in the door was Louise Kennedy, who has had "a long love affair with the hotel".

The designer is currently busy with the production of her spring/summer 2014 range, as well as putting the final touches to the launch of her debut fragrance, to be released in November after 18 months in the pipeline.

"It really is full steam ahead for us at the moment," she told the Diary.

"We've just come back from Paris, which is our big exhibition for fabrics, and we're starting to get busy with Christmas buys, so there are several seasons happening at once."

The new Sunday Brunch menu is available from 11.30am to 5pm every Sunday.
