American X Factor judge Demi Lovato has admitted that at the height of her troubles she couldn't go longer than 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine.
The singer has admitted that during a dark period in her life she would even smuggle the drug onto aeroplanes.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, the singer opened up about her past alcohol and drug abuse.
The former Disney actress admitted she lied to those around her to disguise her secret substance abuse.
‘‘I couldn't go 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on aeroplanes,’’ she said.
‘‘I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there. I'd sneak into the bathroom and I'd do it,’’ she added.
The Skyscraper singer said she realised she needed help at 19-years-old.
“I was going to the airport and I had a Sprite bottle just filled with vodka, and it was just nine in the morning and I was throwing up in the car. ‘‘When I hit that moment I was like, it’s no longer fun when you’re doing it alone,” she added. “I think at 19 years old, I had a moment where I was like, ‘Oh my God, that is alcoholic behaviour, I gotta get my s*** together,’’ she added.
Lovato’s mother, Dianna Hart, also spoke to Access Hollywood and admitted that for a long time, she was in denial about her daughter’s behaviour.
“I suspected [she was using drugs]. It’s like any other parent, when you see things, when you see signs. I think for a long time I was in denial,” her mother said.
The singer made her debut as child actress in Barney & Friends and in 2008 she rose to fame as a starring cast member in the television film Camp Rock.
