The two-time Oscar-winner, who has received his seventh Oscar nomination for his role in Silver Linings Playbook, joked about his gangster roles as he planted his hand and footprints into cement on the forecourt of TCL Chinese Theatre, formerly known as Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

"Joe Pesci always said I'd end up with my feet in cement. I don't think this is what he had in mind," quipped the 69-year-old.

"I am honoured to be invited to join the impressive group of artists who have left their imprint on Hollywood Boulevard at Grauman's Chinese Theatre."

Robert was joined at the ceremony by the film's director David O Russell as well as his Analyse This co-star Billy Crystal, who both gave speeches.

Despite being a life-long New Yorker, the Raging Bull star said he was proud of his Hollywood links.

"I'm a New Yorker - it's where I was born, it's where I live, it's where I raised my kids, it's where I started a film festival - it's home," he said.

"But Hollywood is home too. They say everyone in the film industry has three homes: the home where they live, the home where their first wife lives, and Hollywood.

"I love New York, and I'm proud to be a citizen of Hollywood," he added.

Robert plays obsessive American football fan Pat Solitano Sr, father to Bradley Cooper's character, in David's comedy-drama.
