Darby O'Frill and the lingerie people
ONLY in America could you combine leprechauns and lingerie -- and still expect to find a pot of gold at the end of the runway.
Taking her cue from the king of the little people Darby O'Gill -- Darby O'Frill, anyone? -- underwear model Hilary Rhoda, took to the Victoria's Secret catwalk wearing an unlikely combination of an emerald green bowler hat, giant shamrock wings, a tweed waistcoat, emerald green elbow-length gloves and shimmering green heels. Oh, and what looked like a green suspender belt.
The bizarre Oirish-themed outfit raised a few eyebrows at the pre- Christmas lingerie fantasy fashion show in New York. But, ever the professional, Ms Rhoda gritted her teeth and smiled beatifically as she strutted down the runway. But the star of the show at the Lexington Avenue Armory was undoubtedly Rihanna, who performed 'Diamonds' and 'Fresh Off the Runway' from her album 'Unapologetic'. The Barbados-born star held her own among the leggy models in a lacy dusty- pink number.
She was joined on stage by Canadian teen pop idol Justin Bieber, who danced around in both all-white and all-black outfits while performing.
Other quirky outfits included what appeared to be a cowgirl-themed two-piece set, a naughty Santa-inspired bra and undies set with thigh-high PVC black boots and a pink hoodie over bicycle handlebar knickers with colourful ribbons.
The show airs on US television on December 4.
