Danielle Cormack has said she jumps at the chance to play strong women.
The New Zealand-born actress takes the lead role in Wentworth Prison, a contemporary reworking of Prisoner: Cell Block H.
The Rake star said: "As an actress you're living for projects where you get a chance to play strong women or you're working with a predominantly female cast.
"We were working so closely together - when you're working in 40 degree heat in these cells, and you are there for 10 to 12 hours a day, it really did feel like you were incarcerated! But I couldn't have asked for a better bunch of women to work with."
She said of doing research: "I didn't feel that it was pertinent for me to research so much at the beginning because the character of Bea was not in prison before we meet her - I didn't really want to be too savvy about what was going on.
"Halfway through I went to visit a prison which was incredibly enlightening in terms of how different women function in there."
:: Wentworth Prison begins on Channel 5 on Wednesday August 28 at 10pm.
