A-list actor Colin Farrell has admitted that the last romantic relationship he had was with Hollywood screen siren Elizabeth Taylor.
He has spoke of how he fell for one of the great screen actresses of Hollywood's Golden Age just before she passed away.
During an interview with chat show host Ellen DeGeneres on Monday, the Irish actor opened up about his special relationship with the movie icon who died at age 79 in 2011.
''It was kind of like the last, it feels like in my head, not her, I’m projecting, but the last kind of romantic relationship I had, which was never consummated,'' the 37-year-old said.
It all began when Colin was introduced to her team in a hospital when his youngest son was being born.
He has two sons, James, aged 10, and Henry, aged four.
'We were in Cedars and I bumped into - it was about an hour before Henry arrived - and I bumped into somebody outside the lift. It was Elizabeth’s manager and her close friend Tim Mendelsohn and they said what are you doing here?'' he said.
''I said my son’s about to be born. They said oh. I said what are you doing here?
''And they said well Elizabeth’s having a stent put in her heart, it’s no big deal cause she had so much sh** and I said, "Will you tell her I said hello? She probably won't know who I am."
The actor was surprised to hear that the movie legend knew who he was.
'And they go, "No, she knows who you are," and I went wow, "Cool. Well, tell her I said hello and I wish her the best" and they said, "Will do.''
After the encounter with her minders, he decided to send her flowers to wish her well after her stint in hospital.
'I got home a few days later with Henry and I was thinking about Elizabeth and how she was doing and I called my publicist and I said I bumped into some people of Elizabeth Taylor’s, some friends of hers, could I send her some flowers?' he said.
This sparked a friendship between the pair, who regularly met up, with Colin admitting, ''I just adored her''.
'That was the beginning of a year and a half or two years of what was a really cool,' he said.
One of the things the two stars bonded over was insomnia.
'She’s wasn’t much of a sleeper at night like I’m not, so at two o’clock in the morning I’d call her,' he admitted.
