Brian O'Driscoll: 'Sharing my last game at the Aviva with Sadie made it more special'
Brian O'Driscoll has spoken of his pride at carrying daughter Sadie (one) on to the pitch after his final game playing in the green jersey on Irish soil.
After Saturday's victory over Italy, the Man of the Match was given a standing ovation and guard of honour from both his teammates and fans.
But it was his adorable daughter Sadie who stole the show.
The rugby legend made a special call to the Ray D'Arcy show on Today FM to surprise a fan, Michelle,, who had missed seeing him on Saturday afternoon after his final game.
"I was just trying to take in the moment, it was great fun," he told the programme.
"I was just trying to enjoy the moment because it passes by in an instant and to share it with her [Sadie] was great," he added.
He surprised both his number one fan and show bosses by calling in unexpectedly while listening to the show at campa ahead of Saturday's game in France- his final professional rugby performance.
"It'll be nice memories looking back in a few years time," he explained. "I was really touched by the atmosphere in the Aviva - it was insane.
"It's only hitting home now, I'm reading through emails, texts and tweets and it really is very touching."
O'Driscoll even joked about newly retired former Ireland teammate Ronan O'Gara when asked about the atmosphere at the camp.
"Atmosphere in the camp is good, you sound like Ronan O'Gara, who's always asking, 'Well how's things? How's the camp? I'm only gone isix months and I've already turned into this person!'"
As for his attitude towards Ireland's chance at Six nations victory, he said: "We won't worry ourselves just yet, just keep building for the rest of the week; when it gets to Saturday, we'll give one massive performance."
