HE IS well used to rocking arenas around the globe, but Bono enjoyed a new experience when he saw his daughter graduate in a world-famous stadium.

The U2 frontman was in New York's Yankee Stadium to see Eve Hewson pick up her degree in theatre studies from New York University.

But he was happy to stay away from the limelight for once. Bono was reportedly offered an honorary degree as a Doctor of Humane Letters and was invited to give the commencement speech.

But he "politely declined" the offer saying that he didn't want to steal the spotlight from his daughter.

Bono arrived at The Bronx venue with wife Ali Hewson in a Chevrolet SUV before being whisked backstage in typical rock-star fashion.

But he was not there to appear on stage – instead Bono (53) took a seat in the crowd at the 50,000 capacity stadium with countless other proud parents.

He saw his 21-year-old daughter accept her diploma, although, unlike many graduating students, she already has a solid career in place.

She has combined her studies with several movie acting roles, including opposite Sean Penn in 'This Must Be The Place'.

Eve was just one of thousands of students celebrating their graduation or "commencement" from the US university yesterday.

But her rock star father still stood out in trademark red shades – and was stopped by several fans as he made his way through the crowd.

He happily posed for pictures with students in their mortar boards and graduation gowns.
