Birthday bash for crime drama star
Don't you just love it when success brushes off a person like the petals from the flowers in May (ah, go on, I work hard enough, I am entitled to a bit of lyricism.)
Aidan Gillen, who is just about as successful as it's possible to be (Game of Thrones, Love Hate) threw his forty sixth birthday (and he is eternally youthful too) in the Parlour Bar in Whelan's last Friday.
Needless to mention, some of the guests looked as if they were heading off to do a bit of GBH which is not unexpected given that they included the top billing from the RTE smash hit crime drama: Tom Vaughan Lawlor (who plays Nidge in Love/Hate) and Peter Coonan (Fran). Singer Paolo Nutini was there too.
Peter and his girl Kim O'Driscoll – the blonde stunner who runs Dalkey's DeVille's restaurant with her brother David – are expecting their first baby this week. So there will be an extra celebration any minute.
Someone who has never needed an excuse to party is Shane MacGowan. The Pogues star was celebrating in The Black Door on Harcourt Street until very late last Saturday with various pals. His longterm girlfriend Victoria Mary Clarke went home at 3am (where is the girl's stamina, for God's sake).
The occasion was Sarah Leahy's 30th birthday. Sarah, for the benefit of the incognescenti, is the chateleine of The United Arts Club.
The celebrations started at lunch time in Chez Max on Baggot Street on Friday before going on to The Black Door, where the likes of Sinead Ryan, Hayley Rock, John Minihan, Frank Murray, Joey Cashman, and Antonia Leslie joined the party goodo.
Shane, who was drinking large gins while all around him drank champagne, got up and gave a rousing rendition of A Rainy Night In Soho for Sarah and the two hundred guests.
He also gave the birthday babe turquoise drop diamond earrings while Victoria got Sarah beautiful gold heart earrings.
"Shane also got me a set of Lego! I don't why either! I'm lost too," laughed Ms Leahy.
Didn't she once date John Ryan?
Need I say more?
