The Obama administration promises to take into consideration any petition which at least 100,000 people have signed.

The petition, which has more than 170,000 signatures, states: "We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive ... Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked.

"He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nation's youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society."

The Daily Mirror reports that it is unlikely that the Boyfriend singer will actually face deportation because under US law, non-Americans can only be forced out if they are convicted of a crime involving "moral turpitude" or "aggravated felony".

The 19-year-old Canadian pop star was arrested last week in Florida and charged with driving under the influence, driving with an expired licence and resisting arrest without violence. He has denied all the charges.

Despite the furore, Justin was spotted soaking up the sun with Chantel Jeffries, the model thought to be his new girlfriend at the weekend.

Since then, he has also been charged with assault for allegedly hitting a Toronto limousine driver several times in the back of the head last month, the second arrest in a week for the pop star.
