Oscars golden girl Lupita Nyong'o nabs another award win

Kerry Washington and Lupita Nyong'o were among top winners at the NAACP Image Awards Saturday night.

The Scandal star took home the prize for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her role as political “fixer” Olivia Pope in the hit show, which also won Outstanding Drama Series.

Hollywood newcomer Lupita meanwhile took home Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture for 12 Years a Slave, which also won Outstanding Motion Picture.

Forest Whitaker and David Oyelowo won Outstanding Actor and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for their respective roles in Lee Daniels' The Butler.

Angela Bassett took home the honour of Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for Black Nativity.

Kevin Hart was also a big winner, taking home accolades for Entertainer of the Year and Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series for Real Husbands of Hollywood, which also won Outstanding Comedy Series.

Other big winners included Beyoncé (Outstanding Female Artist) and John Legend (Outstanding Male Artist).

The Chairman's Award was presented to Forest Whitaker, who called for peace as he took to the stage.

“The greatest thing that you'll ever learn is to be loved and love in return,” he stated.

Paris Barclay and Cheryl Boone Isaacs were presented with the Hall of Fame Award.

The 45th Annual NAACP Image Awards were held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium and hosted by comedian Anthony Anderson.

Winners are selected annually by members of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and were still being announced at press time.
