Ellen DeGeneres might have ‘broken Twitter’ with her star-packed selfie, but Benedict Cumberbatch also earned his social media kudos last night.

The ‘Sherlock’ actor photo-bombed U2 as they posed for a photo on the red carpet ahead of their Oscars performance last night.

Cumberbatch leaped into the air, his arms outstretched and grinned as Bono, Adam Clayton, The Edge and Larry Mullen Jr posed with their other halves.

The world-famous rock group suited up for the occasion, putting their own twist on red carpet black-tie.

The Edge teamed his trademark beanie hat with an embellished suit jacket, while Clayton wore a velvet bow-tie and a glittering jacket.

The band received a standing ovation when they performed their Oscar-nominated song Ordinary Love, but failed to scoop the award.

Instead, Kristen Anderson Lopez and Robert Lopez's ‘Let It Go’ from Disney's animated blockbuster ‘Frozen’ walked away with the Academy Award.
