Ron Howard has revealed that relationships have been made - and broken - over Arrested Development.
According to the Oscar-winning film-maker, who is the show's narrator and one of the executive producers, the Emmy-winning cult comedy has been used to judge potential partners.
"A lot of people have told me over the years that they would build friendships around the show. They would judge first dates on whether that person likes Arrested Development or not. It was a means of evaluation," he said.
The show, which has been reborn with new episodes on Netflix, sees returning cast members Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Michael Cera and Portia de Rossi in the upcoming fourth series. It comes seven years after the series was cancelled, due to low ratings.
Will - who reprises his role as preening stage magician Gob - admitted shooting the new episodes were "run-and-gun and crazy."
He added: "But it really worked to our advantage. It was 'OK, get over here, here we go,' and we were right back into it. After working together on the series before, all of us just kind of knew what we're doing. There's an implicit trust there. I know that sounds corny, but it's true."
:: Arrested Development season 4 is on Netflix on May 26.
