FORMER RTE news anchor Anne Doyle, has turned down a string of lucrative offers but wants to write short stories.
"The fact other presenters have done memoirs seems to me a good reason for not doing it. I have had a number of experiences that were fascinating to me, but why would I want to tell anyone about it?" she said.
She was speaking at the launch of a report from Eircom PhoneWatch which revealed Irish householders were feeling less secure than a year ago.
Eight in 10 women admitted they slept with their mobile phones next to their beds, while one in four men slept with a hurley under their beds. And Ms Doyle revealed she had been targeted by burglars four times at her south city home.
And after spending the last year travelling with long-term partner Dan McGrattan, she said they have no plans to marry. "If it's not broke, why fix it?" she said.
Asked if she would return to TV, she said: "Maybe presenting a travel documentary or a historical special, but not presenting the news."
Instead, the Wexford woman is into penning fiction.
"I'm attempting to write short stories. How well am I getting on? I just don't know. On a good day I would say 'grand' but on a not-so-confident day, I would say it's rubbish. Hopefull, the truth is somewhere in between," she said.
