Amanda Byram: 'I’m Single and proud; I don’t understand the fascination'
"Why should your life be based around finding a man?" - the star asks
She is always questioned about her love life, but single and proud TV presenter Amanda Byram insists she doesn’t need a man to make her content.
Amanda, from Castleknock in Co. Dublin, recently turned 40 and is happy with her prosperous career and exciting social life.
Currently filming her new TV show ‘RV Rampage’ in New Zealand, Amanda told the Irish Daily Mail:
“Why should your life be based around finding a man? It’s lovely to have one. But I’d rather a travel buddy.”
While on location in Auckland, she seized the once in a lifetime opportunity to go skydiving and bungee jumping - ticking them off her bucket list.
The former model previously dated comedian Patrick Kielty and was engaged to rugby player Craig McMullen before ending their relationship in March 2012.
When asked about her desires to start a family, she said:
“I’m not sure if I want kids or not. It’s okay not to want kids, as amazing as they are. My life is also pretty bloody amazing, it doesn’t suit everyone”.
Amanda points to the example of Cameron Diaz, another high profile woman who is open about her life as an independent woman.
Amanda says that Cameron has made it “a lot easier” for other single women in their 30s and 40s to be open about their no-strings-attached love lives.
The former model insists, “I am a very lucky girl, I have amazing friends, a great family and a great job”.
Svelte Amanda is also an advocate for a healthy approach to diet and exercise.
She shares health and exercise tips via her Twitter page in the hope that women who follow her will realise the importance of balanced lifestyle.
“Women are so obsessed with what they weigh, so it’s more about being strong. The word skinny needs to be taken out of the dictionary”.
