ACTRESS Alison Doody was in shock following the death of her partner while the couple holidayed in Italy.
Douglas De Jager, a 61-year-old packaging tycoon from South Africa, is believed to have suffered a heart attack while on holiday in Capri with the Irish actress on 30th July.
Despite attempts by paramedics, they were unable to revive the tycoon reports have said.
It is believed Ms Doody, who was previously married to former INM Chief Executive Gavin O’Reilly, had met Mr De Jager, when she spent time in South Africa filming the E4 comedy drama ‘Beaver Falls’ last year.
The couple had kept their relationship under the radar, but it is believed that Mr De Jager had made frequent visits to see Alison in Ireland.
According to Mr Jager’s twin brother Geoffrey: Alison is such a lovely person. Douglas was so in love her with. She is absolutely devastated, just devastated.”
His twin described him as saying: “Douglas brought warmth, energy, generosity of spirit, charm and a twinkle to everything he did, on top of sharp intelligence and a witty and direct way of coming quickly to the point.”
An obituary in the London Times said Douglas died in a place that he loved.
His brother confirmed his love for the Italian island, saying: “He was in Capri. Douglas loved it, it was his favourite place in the world. He said before if he was to die, he wanted to be buried there.”
He is survived by his two children Douglas Jr. and Adrian, his twin of Geoffrey, sisters Elaine and Denise and mother Mavis.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held in Cape Town this Thursday which Alison is expected to attend.
