One Direction's Niall Horan took some time off his busy schedule to cheer on the Irish rugby team yesterday, but it seems his Twitter comments may have irked Welsh scrum-half Mike Phillips.

During the match, the singer tweeted: "C'mon Ireland ! Wohooo! Fantastic first half hour."

The inoffensive enough tweet was followed by a message directed towards the Welsh rugby player.

"Mike Philips is like a child throwing his toys out of the pram! His attitude is terrible, looks like a right arrogant idiot," the Mullingar man tweeted.

Maybe Niall didn't think his message would get back to Mike, but this afternoon, the rugby player had a little message for Niall.

".@NiallOfficial come down to training in the week big boy. Bring the rest of The Beatles with you," he replied.

Niall has yet to accept or refuse the offer, but he can rest assured he has some of the Irish team behind him, with Rob Kearney tweeting: "@mikephillips009  don't worry @NiallOfficial - I've got your back!"

"Cheers pal! he's ragin Sexto beat them on his right foot," the young popstar replied, before tweeting a picture of from yesterday's match seemingly showing some Irish players laughing at Phillips, who looks less than amused.

The hatchet seemed to be buried when Phillips tweeted a picture of himself and Kearney, writing: "Where did it all go wrong! Haha congrats on the win."
