Tried & Tested: Undereye Concealers

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat, €35. A beauty icon, Yves Saint Laurent's Touche Eclat is make-up bag essential for women the world over, and is considered by many as the original and best under-eye concealer.

A little luminosity underneath the eyes can be an enormous help on a cold winter morning. From disguising dark circles to de-emphasising bags, there's one to suit every complexion and budget.

YSL TouchE Eclat

The sell: The original cult concealer adored by celebrities.

our take: This is a luxe product with a matching price point, and for years it was the only way to go in terms of illuminating dreaded dark bags under the eyes. However, these days the more pocket-friendly versions are just as effective. I still like to have a Touche Eclat to hand, though, and I'm sure many women feel the same.

The fine pen can be used right up to the lash line, and to highlight the brow bone too.

It's pricey, but perhaps worth it for the shelf appeal of the packaging?

Rimmel Match Perfection Concealer

The sell:: A 2-in-1 concealer and highlighter that adapts to your skin tone.

our take: This one is budget-friendly, yet very sophisticated.

Creamier than most undereye concealers, you only need a tiny bit and it blends well.

It banishes dark circles, de-emphasises crows' feet and stays on all day. It can get a little messy as it's quite free-flowing, but you won't be distraught if the mass market packaging gets ruined.

A real winner, actually.

L'Oreal Lumi Magique

The sell: A highlighting, concealing pen with luminous particles.

Our take: The packaging of this is very pretty and pearlescent, and looks fabulous in your make-up bag.

The clicky pen is also easy to use, but I found this to be far more highlighter than concealer, as it didn't offer all that much coverage.

The formula is very dewy, and you really only need to use a tiny bit.

More for when you want to glisten like JLo on a big night out than for hiding those tell-tale signs of fatigue on an early morning.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

The sell: Part of a three-product set that promises to suit specific skin tones.

our take: This is a great concealer, and while it works fantastically under the eyes it's not as luminescent as the others, so it can also be used on blemishes.

It's thick and creamy and has just enough yellow in it to disguise blue-black marks on the face without making the undereye area look freakishly bright.

The foam applicator is handy too, and it lasts for ages.

I wasn't as mad about the foundation or powder from the same range – this is the stand out for sure.
