Wow, talk about the new-mother glow. When Kate Middleton left the hospital just one day after giving birth, she looked absolutely radiant in a gorgeous polka-dot dress, apparently in tribute to Princess Diana.
Kate's first appearance as a new mother had been carefully choreographed, and it showed in her perfect poise. When she faced the assembled press pack, the Duchess appeared cool, calm and confident while she held her new son close.
As we've come to expect with Kate, she was groomed to perfection.
It wasn't exactly a surprise to learn that her hairdresser Amanda Cook Tucker had been spotted entering the London hospital hours earlier and she had made sure it was yet another good hair day for Kate and those glossy locks.
Of course, Kate's radiant appearance owed a debt to carefully applied make-up. Her signature look may be girl-next-door but it involves serious eyeliner. However, for the pictures that would be beamed around the world, she opted for a more subtle approach with rosy cheeks, nude lips and ever so slightly defined eyes. The result? Natural, subtle and really quite stunning.
Kate is a dab hand when it comes to the tools of the cosmetics trade.
This is a woman who famously did her own make-up for her wedding day. So she may well have managed the look on her own. She's had lots of practice after all.
While many women in her situation would have a make-up artist on call, she always seems to prefer a DIY approach.
She did her own make-up for the gorgeous official engagement pictures shot by Mario Testino as well.
Now this is a woman who knows her mind.
Kate has taken some pointers though, in the form of lessons from make-up artist Arabella Preston. The latest yummy mummy is clearly a quick learner.
