Chanel has unveiled the first footage of Brad Pitt’s camping for Chanel No. 5. In a series of mini videos, the actor, who is rumoured to have been paid almost €5.36m for his role as spokesperson for the scent, ponders the appeal of the iconic fragrance, which was first launched 91 years ago.
In the black and white video, he says:
“It's not a journey. Every journey ends, but we go on. The world turns and we turn with it. Plans disappear, dreams take over, but wherever I go, there you are: my luck; my fate; my fortune. Chanel No.5, inevitable."
He adds: “What’s important to remember about Chanel N°5 is how revolutionary this fragrance is. When it was introduced, it broke all the rules by discarding meaningless ornamentation for an honest and open aesthetic, and a scent which embodies liberation from trend, creating a fragrance which remains as modern today as it was during its inception. Chanel N°5 has always been the most iconic women’s fragrance.
The actor then continues: “The beauty of its success for all these years is both elegantly simple and complex at the same time. That’s what I see being the appeal of this campaign; it goes beyond the abstract of emotion or beauty to evoke what is timeless, a woman’s spirit.”
Atonement director Joe Wright directed the videos, while photographer Sam Taylor-Johnson shot the accompanying pictures.
