The sun may be shining in some parts of the country this morning but, in others, people are being warned of heavy rain and spot flooding.

Met Eireann have put a yellow weather warning in place, warning those who may be at risk because of their location or activity today.

Strong and gusty winds are expected over Munster and Connacht, with rain becoming more widespread throughout the day.

It will be the southern coastal counties that will get the brunt of today’s bad weather with heavy rain and spot flooding forecasted.

Elsewhere is expected to stay dry and sunny, but with some light, patchy rain showers.

“The great weather during exams myth won’t ring true in 2014,” a Met Eireann spokesperson told Independent.ie.

Top temperatures are expected to reach 14 to 18 degrees Celsius today.
