Today’s bright and sunny spells will be pushed aside for rain and cold temperatures this weekend.

Umbrellas are recommended for Saturday and temperatures are set to drop to below freezing overnight.

And you could need your umbrella sooner than the weekend.

“We are expecting another band of low pressure from the west today,” a forecaster for Met Eireann told independent.ie.

“It will pass just below us so this means that we won’t get strong winds, which is positive, but we will get the rain later.

“Temperatures are also set to drop so we can expect rain and sleet on lower ground and snow on higher ground.”

For those planning their weekend, Sunday will begin dry and sunny but more rain is set to come in from the west in the afternoon.

There are no weather warnings in place.
