Sunny spells to stick around for long weekend

Temperatures reached as high as 23C yesterday and the outlook for the weekend remains pretty good, though not quite as warm or settled, Met Eireann said.

Today will be warm with temperatures of 16-20C, but there will be some cloudy or hazy periods with some showers, that could be heavy in places, said forecaster Klara Finkele.

For the weekend, temperatures will fall back a little to 13-16C, which is more normal for this time of the year.

Sunday could be the best day of the weekend, as it looks like it will be mostly dry with some sunny spells, she said.

The west got the best of yesterday's high temperatures -- reaching as high as 23C at Shannon Airport and 22C in Valentia, compared with 16.5C in Dublin, where an easterly breeze brought them down.

Easter Monday is expected to be mostly dry with sunny spells and a few well scattered showers in the afternoon.
