Umbrellas, winter coats and scarves are the order of the week as the weather is set to be both wet and cold over the coming days.

Widespread rain is set to hit Ireland later today with virtually no area escaping the wet weather.

A spokesperson from Met Éireann said: "The weather has changed. Widespread rain is coming in across the Atlantic.

"It will be widespread today and not clear in the east until the late evening."

However, it is not all bad news, as tomorrow is set to be bright and mainly dry.

Temperatures will drop to between 7 to 11 degrees with some blustery wind.

Thursday will be more of the same, before the widespread rain returns on Friday.

The spokesperson added: "Wednesday and Thursday will be fresh, bright and cold. The rain will then return on Friday."
