The high temperatures from the weekend are set to stay for the beginning of the week - but it's not all good news.

A forecaster for Met Eireann told Independent.ie that temperatures will reach beyond 20 degrees across the country on Sunday and Monday.

"Monday will be dry with good sunshine and a few patchy clouds," they said.

"Temperatures will reach between 20 and 24 degrees, but it will be one or two degrees cooler along the coast."

The good weather will continue on to Tuesday before showers begin to develop on Tuesday night.

"Tuesday will be generally dry with cloud increasing in the east and south. Top temperatures will be between 21 and 24 degrees, while the south and east will see temperatures of 18 to 21 degrees.

"Widespread showers will develop on Tuesday night and into Wednesday, with low pressure from the Atlantic bringing showery rain into Thursday."

Wednesday will be cooler, with temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees, while Thursday will see temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees.
