Video: Miriam O'Callaghan: 'My tendency to ask inappropriate questions is how I got my own chat show'

TV presenter Miriam O’Callagan has revealed she has a tendency to ask her guests 'inappropriate questions'.

The presenter has said she used to visit the Prime Time green room and ask guests “inappropriate questions for the show, about their families and their backgrounds".

The practice led to producers offering her her own chat show.

In the interview with the Sunday Independent's Barry Egan, Miriam said the relaxed format of the chat show helps her to get the most out of her guests - especially when it comes to politicians.

"It gives you the leeway to ask them about other things, about their background," she said.

The presenter also said she doesn't take herself too seriously either, laughing off the "genuinely funny" Mario Rosenstock impression of her.

While she acknowledges she is a serious person, she also has a lighter side.

"Sometimes you're probably serious, sometimes you're lighthearted. And I think everybody's personalities has lots of different facets."
