* Become familiar with how the internet works, particularly chat rooms and teenage networking sites. Take a night-class if necessary.
* Make sure your children understand they should never give out personal details online.
* Keep communication lines open so your child can tell about suspicious behaviour on the net.
* Help your child understand that some people lie online.
...AND FOR KIDS THEMSELVES
* Don't post phone numbers or your home or school address anywhere online or upload sexually provocative photos.
* Don't add friends to your site unless you know them personally.
* Never divulge your password to anyone except your parents.
