Breaking new ground for the hotel experience
THERE is a certain hotel in Dublin opening its doors in the coming weeks, offering a unique and spectacular view of its surroundings.
No it's not the Shelbourne. Everybody, you're very welcome to Hotel Ballymun.
Located in one of Dublin's most deprived areas, which is under considerable regeneration at present, the hotel is located in one of Ballymun's infamous seven towers.
Ahead of its demolition in April, Thomas Clarke Tower will have nine of its rooms available for reservation by members of the public. There will be a daily laundry and cleaning service and complimentary environmentally friendly toiletries will be provided in the four bathrooms and complimentary Fair-Trade tea and coffee will be available in the communal kitchen.
The project is being spearheaded by a local community group 'Breaking Ground' and was the brainchild of artist Seamus Nolan who has enlisted the help and support of Ballymun's network of community groups. Hotel Ballymun will also feature an eclectic programme of art, music, seminars and social events.
Hotel Ballymun opens from March 23 to April 8.
