Skiing in Bulgaria? It's snow joke...
Love the slopes but hate the cost? A lot of skiers feel like that this season, with many considering eastern Europe for the best deals.
Slope off to Morzine for skiing with soul
If you can judge a ski resort by the calibre of its instructors, then I can say without a doubt that Morzine is thus far my number one. Sebastian, my guide and teacher, is as far away from the cliche as possible. He's young and handsome, of course, but doesn't smoke Malborough reds. He doesn't once shout at me to "bend zee knees" (although I think he's being nice, because I could probably do with a reminder).
Aspen: Peak of perfection
Skiing in the US had always seemed beside the point. I love the States, but I don't love how long it takes to get there.
Winter chill spells ski bonanza
After the winter we've had so far, most of us would rather never see the sight of snow again. And then there are those who are longing for a holiday on the slopes.
Snow activities: Go on, release the inner child in a white heaven
I love skiing, but I must confess that I also regard myself as a complete coward. I simply do not want to feel the fear -- and then make it my friend. I have no desire to speed down a black run, or push myself to the limits of my abilities as I race down the slopes. I suppose you could say that I prefer to smell the coffee, take in the view, and enjoy the journey whenever I put on my skis. And I like to take a break from the skiing.
Skiing: Conquer your fear, then it's downhill all the way
THIS must be how Jonathan Harker felt, was my initial thought as the coach took us off the main road into the forest. Higher we climbed, deeper into the trees, until the only thing that stopped me getting out the garlic and a crucifix was the knowledge that this wasn't Transylvania in the 19th Century, and I wasn't on my way to Castle Dracula. It was Bulgaria in the 21st, and I was going skiing for the first time.
US slopes do skiers a powder of good ...
Comparing skiing in America and Europe is a lot like tasting two different ice-cream flavours. Each has a different taste. I'm a veteran of the European slopes and I'd hardly hit the American ones when I realised that virtually all they have in common are snow and the general practice of sliding down the trails.
Promotion: Top skiing tips
Are you thinking of hitting the slopes this season? In this video special we give you the tips you need to ensure that you have a great ski holiday this season.
November getaways: Winter wonders on the way
November might mean darker days and colder nights, but it's a perfect time to grab some great art, late sun and early snow. You don't have to be a culture buff to appreciate the cast of exhibitions coming to Europe's top galleries this season.
Winter Holidays: Where's hot in the cold
Over the next few months, airines and travel companies will be doing their best to sell you two types of holiday: skiing and winter sun.
