Frankfort Airport strike cancels flights

Friday February 17 2012

HUNDREDS more flights have been cancelled at Frankfurt Airport on the second day of a strike by ground workers.

The DAPD news agency reported that 282 flights had so far been cancelled on Friday at what is Europe's third busiest airport.

Many more flights are expected to be disrupted.

Workers walked off the job for seven hours on Thursday and will be out all day Friday.

The GdF union is in dispute with airport operator Fraport about pay and working conditions for 200 ground workers who want higher wages.

Fraport said it is trying to operate at least half its 1,300 daily take-offs and landings during the strike.
