Egypt for the Arab summer
'Visit Egypt" and "Egypt needs Tourists" were just some of the messages seen on placards in Cairo's Tahrir Square after last year's revolution. And if, as Egyptian novelist and political commentator Ahdaf Soueif asks, you care for the environment and like to boycott nasty regimes, then, "this is an opportunity to do something positive and ethical and fun ... MON dieu! On Main Street USA, gateway to such magical destinations as Fantasyland, Adventureland and Frontierland, the workers of Disney are striking. In the shadow of Sleeping Beauty’s castle, cast members – as the staff are referred to here – are blowing whistles and waving flags, protesting about pay rises.
Yorkshire: A novel visit to Bronte country
THERE was the usual Sunday carvery fare on offer in the pub, but I knew what I wanted -- the roast beef with Yorkshire pudding -- because this wasn't just any old pub. We were in the village of Haworth in West Yorkshire, and the pub was the Black Bull, favourite haunt of wayward Bronte brother Branwell.
New York: Tucking into the Big Apple
Have you ever found that short breaks have a habit of taking on a theme without you being conscious of it 'til afterwards?
