Festival au Desert in Mali
Do you have any information on companies (Irish, perhaps) covering the music and arts Festival au Desert in Mali each January? Tom Byrne
I haven't found any Irish companies offering trips to the magical Festival au Desert, which takes place near the oasis town of Essakane, which is a couple of hours' drive from Timbuktu in Mali, in January each year. However, the Imaginative Traveller (0044 147 366 7337; imagi native-traveller.com -- call for up-to-date pricing) offers a 13-day tour taking in the unique villages of the Dogon people, a visit to Timbuktu and the festival itself. Mali is a wonderful place to get a taste of West Africa, and is an excellent introduction to the continent as a whole.
