Christmas in Lanzarote

By Tom Hall

Tuesday November 02 2010

We are hoping to travel to Lanzarote on December 22. We will be staying in Puerto Del Carmen. How far are we from the airport and will there be a bus service? Also, are restaurants open over Christmas there? I’m an OAP. Chris, Galway

It’s around 10km from Lanzarote Airport to the apartment complexes of Puerto del Carmen on the island’s south-west coast, so if you’re travelling independently a taxi is the easiest way to go and should cost no more than €25.

Restaurants will be open on Christmas Day — it’s a busy time on the island so you should consider booking somewhere in advance to get a decent dinner, as popular places fill up fast.

Christmas Eve may be a slightly trickier night, as many bars and restaurants close early so staff can spend time with family. Consider self-catering this night, or eating earlier and settling for a drink or two in the evening.
