Juventus, who are chasing Internazionale in the race for the Serie A crown, had to be content with a 1-1 home draw with Sampdoria yesterday afternoon despite laying siege to the visitors' goal for long periods. The result left Juve six points behind Inter, who faced Milan late yesterday. Giampaolo Pazzini put Sampdoria ahead on 10 minutes but Amauri's brave diving header midway through the second half sealed a point for Juve, who hit the woodwork three times.

Newcastle United's Joey Barton will not be charged by the FA over his spat with Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor during Monday night's match at St James' Park after referee Steve Bennett reviewed evidence and decided that he would not have sent off Barton for his raised hand in Agbonlahor's face. Bennett had not seen the incident at the time.
