THE caller to George Hook's show on Newstalk had the right idea. On hearing that the Supreme Court had upheld the right of Portmarnock Golf Club to keep out women members, she said we should just let the chaps go on "playing with their balls" and forget all about it. Not so the National Women's Council of Ireland (NWCI), whose members were very cross about it indeed. Mainly because being cross about these sorts of things is their job. Literally. They are paid handsomely out of the public purse solely to get annoyed about the various inequalities, real or imagined, suffered by Irish women.
