An 87-year-old woman involved in a car accident this week died in hospital yesterday. Patricia Backman, a widow from Cloghans, Ballina, was a passenger in a car that went off the road near Foxford, Co Mayo, at 4pm on Wednesday. Gardai are investigating the reason for the accident at Drummin Woods.
