Tractors lead Crystal Swing bride to church
One-third of Irish country group Crystal Swing has said 'I do' to her long-term boyfriend Tim O'Connor.
The Cork singer (23) walked down the aisle yesterday in Lisgoold in east Cork.
Dervla and Tim got engaged in November when he popped the question in lavish Ashford Castle, Co Mayo, on their third anniversary.
Her brother, Derek, led the procession on his own prized tractor from the Burke family home in Lisgoold, Co Cork, to the nearby Church of St John the Baptist.
Hundreds of guests and fans turned out to witness the event
They were joined by X Factor star Mary Byrne, RTE presenter Brenda Donohue and other figures from the worlds of music and entertainment. A pre-wedding hooley kicked off the day's celebrations at the family home with music and finger food for family, neighbours and friends. Smiling brightly in her dream dress and flowing veil, Dervla told reporters: "This is big and floaty and frilly. I love it. It's one that any princess would like to wear on her wedding day."
Her bridesmaids accompanied her in mink-coloured short dresses.
Dervla met Tim through Derek, and she made the first move by sending him a message on Facebook. After striking up a friendship, he finally asked her out on a date to the cinema.
Speaking about what she most admires about the love of her life, she said: "I don't know anyone who works harder than Tim. He's got sheep and suckler cows and he does it all on his own."
After the ceremony, the reception and celebrations were held at the Midleton Park Hotel, for 250 guests.
Despite her young age, Dervla has said previously that she couldn't wait to get married as she's a "real old woman at heart."
“When I moved out of home my dad shed some tears and it was the first time I’ve ever seen him cry in my life,” she said.
“I’m hoping he doesn’t cry on Saturday (yesterday) because that will set me off too.”
The 23-year-old revealed this week that her big day will be filmed for a potential television show.
"All I can say is that the wedding is being filmed. Watch out on your TV screens…that’s all I am allowed to say," she said.
The name of the television show is not the only secret she is keeping, as she revealed that the day will have a special theme.
"I love the theme – it’s going to be so different, no-one will have anything like it," she said.
Of course, her mother Mary approves of her future husband, too.
"Tim is lovely, and his family are lovely, and it will be a very happy day for all," Mary told Evoke.ie.
