A newlywed bride has revealed the inspiring story behind her 110 pound weight loss.

Haley Smith (24), from Texas, said the moment her fiancé Matt popped the question last year was the happiest day of her life, until she felt "ashamed" at seeing their engagement photos.

She said seeing the pictures from the proposal made her realise she "needed to change" and embarked on an intense, 12-month long healthy eating and exercise regime where she lost an astonishing 110 pounds - and became an Instagram star in the meantime.

"I saw them and didn’t even recognize myself," she told People.

"I cried because this was one of the happiest moments of my life, but I was just so ashamed. I didn’t understand how Matt could want to be with someone like me. After seeing those, I knew I needed to change.”

The blushing bride shed the pounds by making "small changes" to her diet every week including not eating after 8pm and eating a maximum of two takeaways per week.

"I started jogging three times a week at just 30-second intervals for about a half hour, and then I added strength training," she said.

"Even with the small habit changes, I go through so many cycles of being bored or discouraged. When I am, I really try to find different ways of staying motivated."

Smith said she never thought she'd be able to wear a fitted lace gown with a sweetheart neckline, but was proud to show off her hard-earned figure on her big day.

"I thought for sure I would get married in a long-sleeve ball gown dress to hide my whole body, but I ended up picking a strapless mermaid dress. I felt so beautiful in it," she added.
