Real Irish Weddings: A day of cinematic charm for Dan & Jessica
Dan and Jessica from Thurles, Co Tipperary, met as teenagers at the now closed Capitol Cinema and, from there, their love blossomed.
On the eighth anniversary of the couple being together, Jessica came home to find roses on the table and lit candles. She then opened a present hanging on the wall, which revealed a collage of photographs of Dan along with large steel letters spelling out the words: "Will you marry me?" Jessica turned around to find Dan down on one knee.
He had made the letters himself and got a friend to photograph him on the site where the couple hope to build their home.Jessica and Dan chose to have a religious ceremony at St Peter's church in Moycarkey, Thurles, before enjoying their reception at The County Arms Hotel in Birr, Co Offaly.
The pair got creative for their special day, making the invitations themselves as well as the mass booklets. The couple's love of film shone through, too, as they named tables after their favourite films and had a movie-poster table plan. Dan created custom motorcycle pins for the groomsmen's buttonholes, as well as restoring his grandfather's old bicycle for the day, which was filled with flowers beside the church door.
Jessica and Dan also got in touch with the owners of the Capitol Cinema and arranged to have some photos taken at the screen where they had first met.
The pair toured the US for 16 days on their honeymoon, stopping off in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas in a whirlwind tour of iconic American cities.
