Here comes the beautiful bride: 2FM star Louise McSharry weds Gordon Spierin in Cork
RTE 2fm star Louise McSharry (32) married her partner, Gordon Spierin, in a ceremony in Co Cork, almost 12 months to the day after she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer.
Louise, whose successful battle against the disease inspired the nation, admitted she was excited by her special day, and the weather played along, thanks to prolonged sunny spells.
The presenter was overwhelmed with messages of congratulations and best wishes throughout the day.
She revealed she even slept in her ‘Yes Equality’ T-shirt the night before her wedding.
“It only seemed right,” she wrote on Twitter.
She further joked that she had to spend the morning of her wedding watching Magic Mike XXL.
“This day last year I was diagnosed with cancer. Today I’m starting my wedding celebrations. What a difference a year makes,” she said.
Louise paid a moving tribute to the medical professionals who helped her, and all those who supported her throughout her cancer battle.
“People have been so amazing since I’ve been sick. I have been so lucky with the support, from people I don’t know and people I do,” she said.
“The whole thing is a changing experience, but receiving that kind of kindness will have a lasting impact on how I feel about pretty much everything.
“Yeah, I had cancer. But I didn’t have any complications. It wasn’t easy, it was hard. Chemo is hard.
“But at the same time, I have friends who had to have surgery and radiation. I just did six months of chemo, and now I’m grand.”
After the ceremony yesterday, the happy couple were scheduled to party the night away with family, friends and colleagues at a private celebration in the plush Ballinacurra House Hotel outside Kinsale.
Ballinacurra House is famed as the hideaway where King of Pop Michael Jackson spent time with his children to escape the pressures of fame in 2006.
The house is also noted for the privacy it offers guests.
The beautiful house, set in secluded woodland, was one of the destinations sought by Kanye West and Kim Kardashian for their Irish honeymoon, but it wasn’t available for their chosen dates last year.
Louise, a native of Dublin, ranks as one of 2fm’s most popular DJs.
She spoke repeatedly about her cancer diagnosis and treatment, being hailed for inspiring numerous other Irish people battling the disease.
She chose the Irish Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day last March to publicly confirm her all-clear.
“I genuinely feel really lucky,” she said.
