Today FM’s Louise Duffy and Kerry footballer Paul Galvin will ring in 2016 as a married couple after tying the knot in County Mayo today.
The couple wed in a New Year’s Eve ceremony this afternoon in St Tiernan’s Church in Crossmolina, where radio star Louise once made her First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
Sticking to her promise to remain traditional, the bride walked down the aisle to wed the GAA star in a white lace gown by Irish designer Kathy de Stafford with embroidered sleeves, while Paul looked dapper in a tailored three-piece black suit from his own Dunnes Stores Vanguard clothing range, which he altered slightly.
Earlier this year, the groom revealed that he would not be able to upstage the bride, even if he tried.
"It would be very hard to upstage Louise, wherever you go with her. You couldn't upstage her. But we're obviously excited about it. We're looking forward to the day now. It's getting closer and closer," he said.
Despite the rain, the couple and their guests were all smiles as they posed outside the Mayo church.
The ceremony was attended by 200 guests, which included Kerry senior football manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice. Louise's Today FM colleagues are expected to attend tonight's afters.
The newlyweds and their guests will ring in the New Year this evening in Belleek Castle in Ballina, which is just miles from the church where the pair married this afternoon.
The couple and their guests are expected to dine in Belleek Castle’s candle-lit banquet hall, which boasts stunning wood-panelled high ceilings, hanging chandeliers and throne-like chairs at the room’s top table.
Speaking of the wedding earlier this month Louise revealed that it would be a family affair.
"The place we're getting married in is just beautiful, but for New Year's Eve, I want it to be magical with lights and candles and everything," she said.
“It will be a family event really and there’ll be 200 at it. In the countryside families are big and many.”
This morning, the radio star shared an intimate photograph of herself pictured with her new husband on Instagram which she captioned with ‘My Boy’.
The couple became engaged in New York in March 2014, after dating for three years.
