Brogan (32) popped the question to PR Executive Keira in January while they were lapping up some winter sun on holiday in Turkey.

They had been dating for three years and Bernard told the Sunday World he's "looking forward" to the wedding.

"It will be around Christmas.  We haven't figured out what it will be like, but it will be interesting," he said.

Explaining why they will get hitched during the festive season, he said, "For sports people, November and December is the only time of year we have downtime as the season is so long."

Bernard had been dating Keira for three years when he got down on knee.

"I took her by surprise, but we've been going out for a number of years so I am looking forward to tying the knot," he said.

Following their engagement, Bernard's uncle Ben Brogan said, "We'd like to send our best wishes from all the family, and Kiera will make a great addition to the family - she is very welcome" and joked, "Although Bernard's a good catch too."

Previously the Dublin star opened up about the key to their success as a couple, putting their strong relationship down to their shared love of sport.

"She's a sport-mad girl. She was a great basketball player and swimmer and loves the GAA and rugby, so she loves the journey," he said.

"We go to some great matches and have great craic."
