Alannah McGurk's wedding dress designer Dawn Fitzgerald reveals her secrets
Dawn Fitzgerald Atelier's latest couture bridal capsule collection features eight gowns, all designed and handmade in her Dublin studio, using the finest fabrics.
"All of our clients vary in shapes and sizes and there are different cuts to enhance everyone's figure, so it's fundamentally about getting the right cut for you," explains Dawn, who says she designed her gowns to be "elegant, regal, refined and ladylike".
Those words perfectly describe the look of Alannah McGurk - the barrister and former model, who is the daughter of broadcasters Miriam O'Callaghan and Tom McGurk - who wore a dress by Dawn for her Kerry wedding late last month.
"Most of our brides have gowns designed specifically for them, which incorporate different elements for a silhouette and a look that's perfect for them," says Dawn. Considering prices start from €3,000, some clients want to make their big-day dress an investment piece for the future.
"For a lot of our brides, it's important to wear the gown again," Dawn confirms, "and some have them remodelled later or have Christening gowns made from trains."
